Nubra have many beautiful rock carvings of prehistoric period. These carvings have many forms but Ibex carving among them are common. The other animal carvings belong to camel and horses. In some places people in hunting and dancing postures along with auspicious sign of swastika can be seen. All these carvings are scattered between Sasoma and Saichen glacier, Degar, Tangyer, and Hundar villages. Besides, engraved Buddha and Bodhisattva images along the Hundar also have historical values. Thus Nubra not only has Historical/Archaeological sites but also have rich monastic culture. Deskit and Samstanling are big Gelugspa monastic establishments.
