Synthetic absorbable sterile surgical suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. It is coated with calcium stearate and 30:70 poly(glycolide-co-L-lactide). The copolymers used in this product have been found to be nonantigenic, nonpyrogenic and elicit only a mild tissue reaction during absorption. Coated Polyglactin suture elicits a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissue and ingrowth of fibrous connective tissue. Progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of coated Polyglactin suture occurs by means of hydrolysis, where the copolymer degrades to glycolic and lactic acids which are subsequently absorbed and metabolized in the body. Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength followed by a loss of mass. The retention strength of PGLA suture is about 60% of the initial strength after 14 days in-vivo. Absorption is essentially complete by 90 days.

  • Exp: 06/2027, 12 pcs/box, sutures for veterinary use ** Material: USP 4-0 Polyglactin 910, 35" (90cm) in length, comparable to Vicryl ** Needle Type: Reverse Cutting ** Needle Size: 24mm, 3/8 of a circle ** Polyglactin Veterinary Suture Absorption: 60-90 days
  • PGLA or Polyglactin 910, a synthetic, coated, and absorbable multifilament (braided) suture material, offers medical professionals a versatile tool in various sizes. It strikes a balance between knot security and minimal tissue reaction, making it a valuable choice for surgical applications.
  • While it loses strength faster than materials like polydioxanone and polyglyconate, it maintains a steadier pace compared to polyglecaprone 25 and aligns closely with the degradation rate of polyglycolic acid.
  • For enhanced performance, PGLA or Polyglactin 910 suture is available in a coated format, featuring a layer of calcium stearate and a glycolide and lactide copolymer. This coating serves to reduce tissue drag during suturing, ensuring smoother and more efficient procedures.
  • PGLA or Polyglactin 910 undergoes degradation through the hydrolysis of its polymer's chemical bonds, culminating in complete absorption approximately 60-90 days post-implantation.
